  • Advocacy: building awareness of the History Center’s role in preserving local history.
  • Communications and Programming support: Our website, newsletters, and social media keep the public informed about the History Center and encourage involvement with the preservation of local history.

What Is the History Center?
The Sarasota County History Center is a branch of the Sarasota County Public Library System with two main functions:

• Collecting, preserving, and sharing the world’s largest collection of historical records, artifacts, and reference materials relating to the history of Sarasota County, its communities, and its people.

• Administering Sarasota County’s historic preservation programs, which aim to identify and protect local historic structures and buildings and archaeological sites.
